NEED TO KNOW

  • Director John Hughes and studio execs thought of casting Cryer in the role, per Jason Klamm's upcoming book Ferris Bueller…You're My Hero: The Story of the World's Most Famous Day Off

  • Cryer admits in the book to being "a little jealous" of Matthew Broderick, who got the role, and says he only ever knew he was up for Alan Ruck's character

Matthew Broderick's career-defining role as Ferris Bueller almost went to a fellow '80s heartthrob.

John Hughes, who wrote and directed the beloved 1986 teen comedyFerris Bueller's Day Off, originally pitched a different actor to play the titular role before Broderick got the iconic part, according to the upcoming bookFerris Bueller…You're My Hero: The Story of the World's Most Famous Day Off.

In an excerpt of the book shared byEntertainment Weekly, author Jason Klamm explains that while Hughes was pitching the film, he and Paramount executives considered someone else to play the high schooler who fakes sick to skip school in the Chicago-set flick:Jon Cryer, a.k.a. Duckie fromPretty in Pink, another beloved classic from the Hughes catalog.

But Cryer, 60, told Klamm that he was never aware that he was considered for the titular role — only Cameron Frye, Bueller's friend, who was ultimately played byAlan Ruck. On the filmmaker and execs' consideration for the iconic lead role, he said it was "news to me."

Asked if his team ever informed him of the consideration forFerris Bueller, theTwo and a Half Menstar told the author, "Yes, for the Alan Ruck character."

"I mean, I'm just too similar to Matthew," he said of why he likely wasn't cast as Cameron — a sentiment he has stated before, reflecting on how he and Broderick, 64,were often compared to each other at the height of their Brat Pack days.

Klamm also writes in the book, which hits shelves June 16, that Cryer "did feel like he was missing out," since Hughes often came to set onPretty in PinkwhileFerris Buellerwas also in production.

"Ferris Buellersounded a little more antically comedic thanPretty in Pinkwas," Cryer said, per the excerpt shared byEW. "It sounded like he was going to have a great time, and I was like, 'Oh, that would have been a fun project to do with him.' "

"I recall being a little jealous at the time," Cryer added.

Hughes museAnthony Michael Hallis also long-rumored to have been considered for the lead role inFerris Bueller, which also starredMia Sara,Jennifer GreyandCharlie Sheen.

Hall, 57, later wrote that the filmmaker "actually had written Ferris Bueller for me," but they "both determined that I should move on to other things," perEW. (Hughes never publicly confirmed Hall's claim.)

Speaking with PEOPLE at the premiere ofAndrew McCarthy's documentaryBRATSin 2024, Cryer said that he and Broderick are no longer mistaken for each other — a frequent occurrence in the '80s.

"No, Matthew and I have since parted ways," he said at the time, joking that theGloryactor "still has hair," unlike him.

"He still has a magnificent head of hair, God bless him," Cryer continued. "He should have it. He should work it as much as possible. You should enjoy it. But I have gone the other direction."

Cameras will roll out once again on theSummer Housecast for season 10's upcoming reunion taping, amid some of the show's most intense drama yet.

Series stars Amanda Batula and West Wilson sent Bravo fans into a frenzy when they posted a statementconfirming their rumored romanceon March 31, weeks aftergossip blog Deuxmoi first reportedthey were hooking up. The rumor created ripples throughout theSummer Housefandom and cast, since Batula wasbest friends with Wilson's ex, Ciara Miller, and Wilson was close with Kyle Cooke, to whom Batula had been married for four years before theyannounced their split in January.

The revelation came as season 10 was still airing — which the cast filmed last summer — but right before the reunion episode was slated to begin filming, as typically scheduled so the stars have time to watch the show back and go into the reunion ready to discuss relevant topics.

With everyone from theirfellowSummer Housecastmatestoother Bravo starsandcelebrities outside the reality TV spherehavinga lottosay about the relationship reveal and picking sides, the question on everyone's lips is: when is the season 10Summer Housereunion?

Here's everything to know about the highly anticipated sit-down and when fans can expect it to air.

When is theSummer Houseseason 10 reunion premiere?

While Bravo hasn't announced an official date for theSummer Houseseason 10 reunion,Entertainment Weeklyhas learned that it will film in late April and is slated to air end of May.

Andy Cohen confirmed thathe's preparing questions to ask the castduring the episode in a post shared to X on March 31.

"My team is getting ready for THE SUMMER HOUSE REUNION!" the host wrote. "Send me all of your questions for the cast NOW and let me know where you're from in the question!"

Manypeople had suggestions.

What happened between Amanda, Ciara, Kyle, and West onSummer House?

WhileSummer Househas featured many a love-triangle and messy breakup, the latest drama between Batula, Cooke, Miller, and Wilson is particularly messy.

Fans have been vocally concerned about Miller, since she and Wilson had a very public breakup after dating for a few months during the show's eighth season. Although their brief dalliance following Wilson's addition to the cast in 2023 ended on less than friendly terms, the pair havemaintained a will-they-or-won't-they vibeever since.

The news of Batula and Wilson created ripples throughout theSummer Housefandom since the show's latest season featured multiple cast memberswondering if Miller and Wilson were getting back together, with the latter being notably disturbed when approached by costar Jesse Solomon about possibly kissing Miller if given the chance. At one point in the season,Wilson even referred to Miller as "the love of my life."

Fans felt particularly scandalized about the rumors because Batula and Miller have been close friends for years; Batula even gushed about Miller coming to her aid after she and Cookeannounced their split in January, a little more than a month before online speculation about her relationship with Wilson began.

It didn't help that both Wilson and Batula denied the rumorsdaysbefore confirming them on social media.

Wilson brushed aside the rumors during a recent appearance on Bravo'sWatch What Happens Live, stating thathe and Batula were just friendsand adding, "If it's not clear, that's a very important person to me, and I, like, care about her a lot."

Batula further denied the rumors, writing, "THANK YOUUUUUUU," when responding to a fan who commented, "West is a safe boy bestie for Amanda because they'd never date. He's so much fun, he cares about his friends, and they have mutual friends to hang out with all the time."

What have Ciara Miller and Kyle Cook said about Amanda Batula and West Wilson's new relationship?

Miller hasn't responded publicly, but she hasunfollowed both Wilson and Batula on Instagramsince their announcement. Wilson and Batula, similarly, are no longer following her.

Cookebroke his silence in a TikTok interview posted April 1, saying that he was "more concerned" about his ex than his own feelings. "I'm obviously frustrated, I mean, we have a new show coming out, and there's so much that gets unpacked there," Cooke told "street journalist" Adam Glyn. "I'm obviously disappointed in her... but just hearing her and hearing how unwell she is, and [her] dark thoughts, I just ask people to just, maybe, pull off the gas a little on the cyberbullying and hate."

The Loverboy founder confessed that he doesn't "understand the timeline just yet" of the relationship between Batula and Wilson, which makes watching the still-airing current season a "mental mindf---." He revealed that he found out about the relationship "over the weekend" and got a heads-up before Batula and Wilson posted their statement, although he admitted that he wasn't completely caught off guard at the admission.

"I mean, it's just like a series of events that, unfortunately, the evidence just kind of started piling up, piling up, piling up. I'll leave it at that," Cooke said. "Looking back, there's a lot of us [who've] been looking at his body language and, you know, how touchy and handsy he is with her and just kind of gave him a little bit of a hall pass like 'Oh, it's West.'"

Cooke said that he's also spoken to Miller and believed that the ICU nurse "had more evidence at her disposal" of the relationship between Batula and Wilson than he did.

Who is attending theSummer Houseseason 10 reunion?

The entireSummer Housecast of season 10 is expected to appear at season 10's upcoming reunion. That includes Amanda, West, Ciara, Kyle, Lindsay Hubbard, Carl Radke, Jesse Solomon, Mia Calabrese, KJ Dillard, Dara Levitan, Bailey Taylor, Ben Waddell, and Levi Sebree.

However, being expected to appear doesn't mean everyone will show up. As Cooke shared duringhis interview after the news broke, things between the stars of the series are a mess at the moment.

"It's just a lot to take in. It's not just me, Amanda, West, Ciara. It's, like, our whole friend group. I mean, Carl is a mess," he said. "It really does put into jeopardy what the show's about because you can't shootSummer Houseif the vibes are off. We're not actors."

Where can I watch theSummer Houseseason 10 reunion?

TheSummer Houseseason 10 reunion will air on Bravo and be available to stream on Peacock next day.

1977 Hit Ranked Among Best 'Country Rock Songs' of All Time Became a Breakup Anthem

In 1977, The Marshall Tucker Band released a song that would go on to define both their career and the country rock genre.

Parade

Their hit, "Heard It in a Love Song," became one of the band's biggest successes, reaching the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning lasting recognition decades later. The track has since been ranked among the best country rock songs of all time byUltimate Classic Rock, highlighting its enduring impact.

Written by lead singer Doug Gray, the song stands out for its smooth blend of country storytelling and rock instrumentation. With its laid-back groove and instantly recognizable melody, it captured the essence of the Southern rock sound that defined the era.

"Well, it was kind of strange. I put off singing that song for a year because, here I was thinking to myself, 'That's just too simple if a song for Marshall Tucker to put out there,' with all these other complex songs that we've got out," Gray said in a2018 interview.

"It finally got to the point where the record was coming out. So they said, 'OK, we got the track. You got to come put the vocal on it.' I put the vocal on it, they put the thing out, and four weeks later it was starting to chart. And everybody, all these teeny-bopper people, were there listening and singing to it." So those teeny-bopper people are now in their 40s or 50s or 60s.""

At its core, "Heard It in a Love Song" is a breakup anthem, one that leans into emotional honesty without becoming overly dramatic. Its lyrics reflect on love, loss and the fleeting nature of relationships, delivered with a sense of quiet resignation that resonated with listeners.

Formed in the early 1970s in South Carolina, The Marshall Tucker Band became known for their fusion of rock, country and jazz influences, often incorporating flute and extended instrumental sections into theirmusic. Songs like this helped them stand out among their Southern rock peers and build a loyal fan base.

Over time, "Heard It in a Love Song" has remained a staple of classic rock and country playlists, continuing to connect with audiences acrossgenerations.

More than four decades later, the track still holds its place as a defining country rock classic, one that captured the sound of its time while delivering a message that feels just as relevant today.

Man Gives Designer His Late Mother's Clothes. The End Result Leaves Internet in Tears (Exclusive)

Mason Wagner began designing clothes in 2020 and shifted to upcycling pre-worn garments to reduce waste

People Credit: Mason Wagner

NEED TO KNOW

  • A viral TikTok video of a custom jacket made from sentimental fabrics brought him hundreds of personal requests

  • Wagner tells PEOPLE his work combines philanthropy, sustainability and storytelling

Mason Wagner's sewing and design career has taken him on different paths.

This Wisconsin resident, 25, started designing clothes in 2020 while at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, where he and his roommate launched a brand called Samaritan.

"The idea was simple: donate 25% of all proceeds to a charity of the customer's choice. As we got deeper into it, we saw firsthand how much waste the process created," Wagner shares with PEOPLE.

This led them to shift their practice toward "reworking pre-worn garments sourced from thrift and secondhand stores, also known as upcycling."

"Samaritan built somewhat of a cult following on campus, but after we graduated and moved away from each other, the brand came to an end," Wagner says. "Still, the passion for upcycling never left me."

Credit: Mason Wagner

Soon after, he began making and sharing garments onInstagram, which started as "just a creative outlet and a way to find community."

Then, last year, Wagner got the idea to make a jacket out of old painters' drop cloths after seeing a Facebook Marketplace listing for hundreds of pounds of used cloth.

"I met up with a nice gentleman named Jim and bought a few. I decided to make a video about the jacket, and it went viral," Wagner says. "Suddenly, hundreds of people wanted a painter's jacket. Others began asking if I could use their personal drop cloths to make something for them."

That was when he realized a gap in the market, one that could be filled by reworking people's old clothes or fabrics into new designs.

"That's when I realized how many people could benefit from a service like this. Around the same time, people also started reaching out about transforming old family tablecloths and loved ones' clothing into something new," Wagner shares.

This is how Wagner connected with a man named Eric, who had a collection of clothes from his late mom and was hoping to repurpose them into "something he could wear." When Eric asked Wagner if he had any ideas about what to make with the worn pieces, at first, he admittedly "wasn't sure."

"But after talking with my grandmother, a lifelong quilter, I had the idea to piece the garments together and line a jacket with them," Wagner shares.

While Eric's mother lived in Ohio her whole life, she loved the beach, so Wagner chose "an outer fabric that resembled water."

Still, the process "was much more complicated" than he expected.

Mason Wagner with the finished jacketCredit: Mason Wagner

He shares that it took "nearly 10 hours" to work with the different fabrics, textures, weights and styles, but the result was "better than I could have imagined."

Wagner posted the results to his TikTok page, and thevideowent viral, amassing over 460,000 views and leaving thousands of commenters overcome with emotion.

"Beautiful!!! Eric's mother will hug him every time he wears this jacket. Nice work!" one person commented, as another added, "I'm sobbing this is beautiful."

"That video really took off. Instead of just requests for painter's jackets, I began receiving hundreds of stories from people online, stories of joy, loss and everything in between," Wagner shares.

The designer admits that "it caught me off guard at first."

"But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. Ever since I started making clothing, I've wanted to honor God by using my talents to build something with purpose," he shares. "My journey from philanthropy to sustainability to storytelling has shown me that clothing isn't valuable just because of how it looks or how it's made; it is the story it carries and the way it makes you feel when you wear it."

He says that "it's been a privilege" to "honor so many meaningful stories over the past year, and I'm excited to continue telling more in the future."
