A LOTTERY player has defied the odds by winning his second $1 million jackpot in six months

However, he immediately had to hand over $180,000 of his latest lottery windfall.

A man in Florida has stunned lottery officials by winning his second $1,000,000 prize in six months.

Scottie Grant of Escambia County claimed his seven-figure prize from the 500X THE CASH scratch-off game in May.

It came just six months since his prior win.

In December 2022, he won $1 million playing the very same scratch-off game.

"I'm back!" Grant said as he claimed his latest prize at the Florida Lottery headquarters.

Although he won $1,000,000 both times, he only received $820,000 each time.

That's because Grant chose to receive his prizes as lump sum payments, rather than take the full amounts in the form of annuity payments.

Florida does not tax lottery winnings, although Grant would have had to pay Federal income tax on his winnings both times.

The scratch-off wizard purchased his latest winning ticket at Circle Food Mart in Pensacola.

The 500X THE CASH game costs $50 per ticket, but features a top prize of $25 million.

MORE LOTTO LUCK

Grant is not the only lottery player who has enjoyed a stroke of luck lately.

One player in Illinois recently learned the value of checking his old tickets.

An anonymous winner was shocked to find out he was owed $1,000,000 from a Powerball draw held one month ago.

It was only when he looked at his old mobile tickets via the app that he saw a message that read: "You're A Winner!"

Over in South Carolina, another player decided to follow his gut and buy the same ticket as the person in front of him at a liquor store.

His intuition paid off and he ended up winning $200,000.

"It was like an out-of-body experience," the man told local NBC affiliate WYFF.

"I wouldn't have bought it if the customer in front of me hadn't."

A COSTCO shopper has claimed he will not renew his membership following a horror in-store experience.

The member, who lives in Arkansas, gushed over how seamless the checkout process is at Costco's rival Sam's Club.

Matt Campbell claimed checking out groceries at the warehouse in Little Rock has become more and more difficult.

"It's crazy that Costco Little Rock has made checking out so needlessly difficult & annoying over the last year that I'm not going to renew my membership," he posted on X, formerly Twitter.

He hailed the benefits of having a Sam's Club subscription.

Sam's Club shoppers can use scan-and-go technology which means customers can pay for items via their cell phone app.

Shoppers must show their receipts before exiting but Sam's Club chiefs are making the process more seamless.

The beloved wholesaler is trialing technology that will eliminate physical receipt checks.

A pilot program was rolled out at 10 stores and Sam's Club bosses hope to have the technology in hundreds of warehouses nationwide by the end of the year.

Shoppers will just have to walk through a scanner where the machine does the work.

Technology will scan the items in the cart and confirm they have been purchased.

Execs say the new system will cut the time staffers have to check pieces of paper, checking items have been bought and processed correctly.

The technology was unveiled at a presentation during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this year.

"Eliminating even the few seconds it takes to scan a receipt at the exit door is well worth it," Megan Crozier, the Sam's Club US chief merchant, said.

The idea of a receipt check has proven controversial as some shoppers feel they're being unfairly targeted when asked to show proof of purchase.

Certain shoppers shared their horror as they felt they were treated like criminals.

Many shoppers associate receipt checks with retailers combating theft, but the purpose of the inspections has been explained on the Costco website.

Costco says the inspections are carried out to ensure the items members buy are correctly purchased.

"It's our most effective method of maintaining accuracy in inventory control," according to the retailer.

Former Costco workers have revealed receipt checks are carried out to ensure customers don't get double charged for items.

The U.S. Sun has approached Costco for comment.

A TRUCK driver has shared his delight and shock after winning $225,000 on the lottery.

The Mississippi man said he looked like he needed an ambulance upon finding out he had won.

A routine pit stop proved to be a very fateful moment for Tommy Hinton of Mississippi when he bought a ticket for the Kentucky Lottery's 100X Scratch Off.

While taking his regular break at Pilot Travel Center in Madisonville, he bought three tickets.

The trucker decided to scratch them off right there and then in the store.

"One of the winning numbers was three and I saw I had the number three. I scratched it and I saw the amount," Hinton told Kentucky Lottery.

"I was speechless. I kept thinking, 'Oh no. No way. No way.'"

He then scanned the scratch-off on the ticket checker to confirm he had really won $225,000.

"I had this look on my face like, 'oh man,'" Hinton told lottery officials.

"The clerk asked me if I was okay and if I needed an ambulance.

"I said, 'No' and then showed her the amount on the machine. Her eyes popped out and were big as saucers."

However Hinton didn't get to take home the full jackpot.

After taxes, the prize was reduced to $162,000.

With his winnings, the driver plans to pay off bills, complete some home renovations, and give to his church.

"I plan to act like I don't have it," he said. "I'm blessed."

Meanwhile, Pilot Travel Center will receive $2,250 for selling the ticket.

Hinton is not the only one to be amazed by an unexpected lotto win lately.

In Florida, Scottie Grant has claimed his second $1,000,000 scratch-off win in just six months.

On both wins, Grant got to keep $820,000 after paying federal taxes.

A BANKING customer claims they missed out on a major $300 promotion bonus, accusing the bank of having a silly rule about the offer.

Between November 1, 2023 and January 9, Capital One offered a major promotion bonus for customers who opened a new 360 Performance Savings account.

In order to get the bonus, customers needed to use the promo code FALL23 when opening the account.

The promotion allowed customers to earn as much as a $1,500 bonus, depending on how much money was deposited in the new account.

Those who deposited $20,000-$49,999.99 could earn $300, while those who transferred $50,000-$99.999.99 would receive a $750 bonus.

Anyone who deposited $100,000 or more was eligible for the full $1,500.

All funds were required to be deposited from an external bank and maintained for 90 days.

If those steps were met, Capital One said it would deposit the bonus amount within 60 days.

While the promotion seems simple enough, one Capital One customer known as @Sheetal_Krishna on X, claimed they were "cheated" out of the bonus because of a "silly rule."

"@CapitalOne I opened a savings acc. with the fall23 promo code & deposited money into it to get a $300 bonus, but I was cheated out of it citing a silly rule & also given false info on MULTIPLE occasions & made to retain my money there longer than required just to be told oops!" the customer wrote on the social media platform in April.

The bank responded to the complaint, saying the customer's case had been "escalated" and that a caseworker would reach out if any follow up was necessary.

However, the customer remained unsatisfied with the response, asking if they needed more information.

The customer went on to say that while the promotion required the deposited funds to be transferred from an "external account," their money originated from a Chase bank account.

However, the customer explained that their Chase account was already linked with a Capital One checking account.

Because of this, the customer said they transferred the money from Chase to the Capital One checking account, then from the checking account to the new savings account.

"But now it's not considered an 'external' account," the customer wrote.

In a separate post, the customer urged the bank to look further into the deposited funds and observe where they had been originally transferred from.

"Could you please be more humane & understanding & see that I transferred money from Chase the same day?"

Capital One again responded to the customer saying it looked into the incident and "have gotten the case where it needs to go."

"Any news will come directly from our research team from here on out," the bank said.

In the description of the promotion, Capital One defines externally sourced funds as "any funds that are deposited into your account from a source that is not affiliated with Capital One, such as another financial institution, Zelle, or Venmo."

Capital One did not immediately respond to The U.S. Sun's request for comment.

The promotion expired on January 9.

A LOTTERY player found herself in possession of the ultimate gift that keeps on giving.

April Zipp's world stopped when she learned she won a million-dollar jackpot on a lottery ticket her husband bought her for her birthday.

Zipp's husband bought ice cream and $20 in Mega Millions tickets at BG's Value Market in Jonestown, Pennsylvania, the day before his wife's birthday, Zipp told local ABC affiliate WHTM.

Gifting her the tickets ahead of the April 12 drawing, Zipp's husband had no clue his $20 purchase would change their lives forever.

"I got up the next day, on my birthday, and checked the tickets with the lottery's app," Zipp told WHTM.

"And it told me a claim form was needed. I didn't understand it at first."

Confused about the message, she took the ticket back to BG's, where the clerk scanned it and told her it was a $1 million winner.

Zipp signed the back in disbelief, attempting to wrap her head around the big win.

"I went outside and cried," Zipp said.

Zipp said she plans to continue working for now but a cross-country trip in an RV is in the works for the 40-year-old school bus driver.

BG's Value Market Owner Dianne Koval told WHTM the grocery store is excited to see the win go to a community member.

"It goes to show that winning tickets can show up anywhere, and anyone has a chance to win," Koval said.

The store will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

TOUGH CALL

Though Zipp is technically a millionaire, that's only before taxes.

She now has to decide if she wants to take the large prize in the form of a lump sum or an annuity.

Lump sums grant the cash in one payment, while annuities pay out over long periods of time.

A lump sum could give her the advantage to walk away with a huge chunk of change.

But an annuity, which typically pays out over years or decades, will reduce the amount of taxable income Zipp needs to report to the government.

The U.S. Sun frequently covers players who lose a chunk of their lottery change after taxes kick in.

Michael Stephens, who was the second winner of the $1 million prize for the new JAWS instant ticket game, forked over $350,000 after he chose to receive his win in the form of a lump sum.

Meanwhile, a Massachusetts winner who wanted to use the money to help her family as quickly as possible also sacrificed $350,000 of her win.

Another lottery winner instantly lost $87,000 from their prize due to a key choice.

Who is Ronnie O'Sullivan's partner?

Ronnie O'Sullivan has been dating Holby City and Strictly star Laila Rouass since 2012.

The couple got engaged in 2013, but seemed in no rush to tie the knot.

Ronnie confirmed as much in a 2019 interview, saying: 'We've been engaged for a while now… I'm sure we will get round to it.'

Alas, it emerged in February 2022 that Ronnie and 50-year-old Laila had called time on their relationship after 10 years together.

In a brief statement, actor Laila tweeted at the time: 'After nearly ten years of love and memories, Ronnie I have parted ways. Peace and love to you all. Laila X [sic].'

But from late April 2022, reports suggested that the couple has reunited.

An insider claimed to The Mirror: 'It seems like they are giving things another go. Nothing is ever straightforward when it comes to Ronnie but there's a lot of love there.'

Does Ronnie O'Sullivan have any children?

Indeed, Ronnie does have three kids from previous relationships.

Daughter Taylor-Ann was born in 1996, to mum Sally-Ann Magnus, who had a year-long relationship with Ronnie in the 1990s.

Taylor-Ann is now a mum herself, to a little girl named Zarah-Ann.

However, it appears the pair do not stay in contact. Ronnie revealed as much in a 2019 chat with The Mirror, while Taylor-Ann slammed him in a 2020 interview with The Sun.

Ronnie also has two kids with ex Jo Langley. Their daughter Lily was born in 2006, and son Ronnie Jr was born in 2007.

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Tottenham will be without Ben Davies and Timo Werner for the remainder of the season after the pair picked up injuries in the north London derby.

Spurs have had to deal with a host of issues this season and recently lost Destiny Udogie to a left quadricep injury which required surgery and will also keep him out of the Euros.

Davies came in to replace Udogie in Sunday's 3-2 defeat against Arsenal and largely performed well, winning a penalty for the side in the second half, but he was withdrawn in the 87th minute.

Spurs also lost Werner after just half-an-hour of the match, with the German tweaking his hamstring before limping off the pitch to be replaced by Brennan Johnson.

Tottenham have a gruelling run of games to end the season, with back-to-back away matches against Chelsea and Liverpool over the next four days, and Postecoglou will once again need to tweak his line-up.

The Australian has revealed that both Werner and Davies are unlikely to play any part in Spurs' five remaining Premier League games due to their injuries, though, in better news, Oliver Skipp will return to the squad.

'Unfortunately we've had a couple of issues out of the last game,' explained Postecoglou ahead of his side's trip to Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.

'Timo has a hamstring [injury] so he'll miss the rest of the season – obviously only three weeks to go, so he won't be back.

'And unfortunately Ben Davies picked up a calf injury which will probably rule him out for the rest of the games as well.

'Apart from that, everyone else is OK and Skippy should be back for tomorrow night as well.'
