THE NFL is introducing multiple new rules for the 2024 season and Bill Belichick has helped explain them.
As part of his initial duties with the Pat McAfee Show, Belichick sat down for an interview with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Belichick discussed the new kickoff formation with Goodell, and they explained how much it will change the game.
"The one thing I'll predict is that we'll bring the kickoff back into the game," Goodell said.
"I think it's an exciting play. We are confident that we can reduce the injury rate with the new format because we will have less speed and force.
"I think that's gonna make a big difference and I hope an exciting play, but as you know we may need to tinker with it a bit over the next couple of years."
Belichick explained that he thinks the new rule will add more offense to the game, to the displeasure of himself and other defensive coaches.
"I think this is an offensive rule," Belichick said.
"I don't think the defensive coaches are gonna like this rule. It's going to create good field position, I think it's going to bring much more value to the returners.
"You better have two good returners because if you only have one they're kicking it to the other side."
Goodell said the new rule should be great for the entertainment value even if it's harder to defend.
"That should be great for fans, but as you say it may not be so great for the defenses," Goodell said.

BILL BELICHICK'S TV DEBUT
Belichick initially announced on the Pat McAfee Show before the NFL Draft that he would be joining the show for special coverage of the event.
"I'm looking forward to it," Belichick said of his Pat McAfee collaboration.
"Draft day, draft weekend, it's always an exciting time for everybody, for the teams, for the fans, for everybody involved in it."
That was just the beginning of his broadcasting career, as he signed a deal with ESPN and Payton Manning's company Omaha Productions to make appearances on the Pat McAfee Show and the Manningcast.
Fans loved what they saw in his Pat McAfee debut during the draft and are excited to see more.
"He has a great personality, so glad to see him in a different light," one fan said.
"Easily the best draft coverage I've ever watched," another person said.
"He was awesome to hear his thoughts during the draft," a third fan said.
