MEMBERS of a California group are upset to see that their native Safeway grocery market will probably be closing — and some assume that criminality may be responsible.
Consumers in the Fillmore and Western Addition neighborhoods of San Francisco have been distraught once they discovered that their nearest Safeway supermarket can be shuttering its doorways within the next two months.
"You're simply gutting the neighborhood," Western Addition resident Theresa Frye advised native ABC-affiliated information station KGO.
The shop on Weber Road is the only Safeway within the area and has been a staple of the group for 40 years.
The grocery store is the simplest level of entry for the elderly and disabled, Frye stated, and people residents can be severely impacted with no alternative.
"It's the destruction of a group!" NAACP consultant Dr. Amos Brown informed native reporters.
The property has already been bought to a real property company that plans to construct a mix of flats and business areas on the lot, investments which are wanted lower than reasonably priced housing or a grocery store, Brown stated,
The move will immediately impression low-income Black and Asian communities that stay in the neighborhood particularly.
But whereas many shoppers stated they have been indignant with Safeway or government officers for not doing extra to keep the shop within the area, some locals assume that the store may be closing for other causes.
"All these individuals pissed off that the shop is closing and adversely impacting the group must be more pissed in any respect the criminals who pressured this and the town leaders, not Safeway," OK Kyle (@KyleCalifornia_) wrote in an X post after the store's closure announcement.
The publish was in response to another remark that blamed "upper-class leftists" for giving leniency to the criminal behavior that the commenter stated is inflicting the closure.
OK Kyle's publish has been seen virtually one million occasions and over 1,500 individuals have favored it.
"For these saying it's not theft, there's just one cause the shops do this to their cabinets. Additionally loads of stories about that retailer closing down its self-checkout because of theft," he added in a subsequent submit with a video of cabinets of merchandise locked behind glass.
